Brief description of the project

The proposed KIE is located in the centre of Kigali at the former Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics for Africa and Mauritius (IAMSEA) and the In-service teacher training Centre.

Kigali Institute of Education was conceived by the Government of Rwanda to serve as a major institution through which large numbers of unqualified and underqualified school teachers would be trained. The training of teachers will have spill over effect on provision of manpower for other aspects of National Development.

The mission of the Institute will be to undertake teacher training research, curriculum development and innovation in instructional methods and serve as the centre of excellence in Education

Aims and objectives

• To support National Policy of Capacity Building.
• To support National Educational Policy of achieving Universal Primarily Education (UPE) by 2015 requires corresponding expansion of the Secondary Sector.
• 63% of Secondary School Teachers are unqualified. Therefore :
• DTO empowers unqualified Secondary School Teachers with quality teaching of rich content and better methodology.
• DTO improves quality product of Education therefore quality population.
